How to merge PDF files
- Drag your PDFs onto the drop area, or click Browse Files and pick them. At least two files are needed.
- Check the order. The list is the order of the final document, and the first file becomes the first page.
- Click Start Merge. The combined PDF downloads straight to your device as jobready_merged.pdf.
Add your files in the order you want them. The list cannot be rearranged afterwards — to change the order, remove a file and add it again at the right point. This matters on a portal that expects the photograph on page one.
There is no queue, no email step and no watermark on the result. Merging is free, with a limit of 50 merges a day.
Merging documents for a government job application
Most recruitment portals want one combined PDF rather than four separate files, and almost all of them cap the size. The usual request is a single document holding, in order: passport photograph, signature, identity proof, then the supporting certificate or marksheet.
Two things go wrong here more than anything else. The first is order — a portal expecting a photograph on page one will reject a file that opens on a marksheet. The second is size: merging four already-heavy scans makes a PDF far over the limit, and the upload fails without explaining why.
If the merged file comes out too large, run it through the PDF compressor, which takes a target size in KB and works down to it. If you are assembling a full application set from scratch, the Doc Packager handles the photo and signature resizing to portal specifications and the bundling in one step.
Why nothing is uploaded
A document merged for a job application usually holds the things most worth protecting — your photograph, your signature, and an identity document carrying your Aadhaar, PAN or passport number. Every online merger that works on a server has, by necessity, a copy of all of it.
This tool reads your files with the browser's own file API and writes the merged PDF back out the same way. The pages never travel. You can check this yourself: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and merge a file. Nothing there carries your document, because no request is made to carry it.
What it does, and what it does not
It combines PDFs in the order you added them, copies each page at its original size, and gives you the result with no watermark, no sign-up and no paywall.
It cannot open a password-protected PDF. If you try, it will name the file and say so — remove the password first in the Smart PDF Suite, then merge. Because the work happens on your own device, very large scans are limited by your device's memory rather than a server quota, and a phone merging many high-resolution pages at once is the case most likely to struggle.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is merging PDFs here really free?
- Yes. Merging needs no account and no payment, and there is no watermark on the result. The free limit is 50 merges a day.
- Are my files uploaded to a server?
- No. The merge is performed by your browser on your own device. No file, byte or metadata is sent anywhere, so there is nothing stored and nothing to delete.
- Can I change the order of the files before merging?
- The files merge in the order they appear in the list, which is the order you added them. The list cannot be dragged into a new order, so remove a file and add it again if you need it somewhere else.
- How many PDFs can I merge at once?
- At least two, and there is no fixed upper limit — the practical ceiling is your device's memory, which matters most on a phone with large scans.
- How do I merge a photo and signature into one PDF for an SSC or UPSC application?
- Resize each image to the board's pixel and KB specification first with the Govt Verifier, then merge the resulting files here in the order the portal asks for.
- My merged PDF is too big for the upload limit. What now?
- Merge first, then compress. The PDF compressor takes a target size in KB and brings the merged file under it, which is more reliable than compressing each part separately and hoping the total lands under the cap.
- Can I merge a password-protected PDF?
- Not directly. Unlock it first in the Smart PDF Suite, then merge the unlocked file.
- Will merging change my page sizes or reduce quality?
- No. Each page is copied at the size it came in at, so a Legal-size or oddly scanned page keeps its dimensions. Quality only changes if you compress the result afterwards.
